Heart Dog Homestead got its name from one very good dog who spent every planting season supervising from the end of a row. She came from a shelter. So we point everyone who comes through here toward the people still doing that work.

Donate at example.orgThis link takes you to Your Local Dog Rescue directly. Your donation goes to them, not to us — we never touch the money and we take nothing out of it. They handle their own receipts, so any tax documentation comes from them.
Shelters can stretch a dollar further than almost anyone. A donation covers whatever is actually short that week — vaccines, a surgery, a heat pump in July — rather than another bag of the wrong food.
Foster homes are the real bottleneck. Every dog in a spare bedroom is a kennel freed for the next one, and dogs show their true personality in a house in a way they never do in a run.
Walking, laundry, transport runs, photographing dogs so their listings do not look like mugshots. Unglamorous, and it is what keeps the doors open.
Plenty of shelters run fundraiser plant sales in spring. A flat of seedlings started from a packet of our zinnias costs you a windowsill and turns into real money for them.
We are a seed company, not a charity, and we want to be straight about the difference. We do not collect donations, add a round-up at checkout, or claim that a portion of your purchase goes anywhere but back into growing seed. What we do is put the link above in front of every person who visits, because that costs you nothing and it works.
