Calendula officinalis

Golden petals for salve and salad, blooming from early summer to hard frost.

A high-resin strain selected for herbal use, with sticky calyxes and single-to-semi-double golden blooms. Petals are edible and go into salads, and the whole flower heads infuse into oil for salve. Deadhead — or better, keep harvesting — and it flowers relentlessly until a hard freeze. Self-sows politely and tolerates poor soil and cool weather without complaint.

Where it comes from. Selected from traditional pot marigold for high resin content.
