Twenty-pound melons with deep green rinds freckled in yellow — small stars all over, and usually one moon-sized blotch. The foliage is spotted too. Sweet red flesh, brown seeds, and a vining habit that will run fifteen feet if you let it. This variety essentially disappeared from commerce until a Missouri grower turned up a surviving planting in 1981. Give it heat, room, and a long season.
Where it comes from. Nearly extinct by the 1970s; recovered from a single Missouri planting in 1981.
